Large scale operation against
the VietMinh Rgts.42 and 50 in the Bamboo Canal sector of the northern
Delta. The three-phase operation with 18 batalions (including 1er BEP)went
on thru Oct-Nov 1953. Despite some success the VietMinh still continued to
dominate about 5000 of the 7000 villages inside the Delta.

By late 1953 most para units receiving the new French "Lizard" patern
camouflaged jump uniforms M47/52. Still, US camouflage uniforms and
material was popular thruout the war.

American uniforms can be seen on some of the paratroopers. US Marine and
Army camouflage uniforms of various types was widely issued to paras from
1950. It was also common with British equipment.
