The light machine gun "Châtellerault" was manufactured by the “Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault” (MAC), the company whom also gave the gun its nickname. The gun was put into use in the French army during the 1930s under the name “Fusil-mitrailleur Mle 1924/29” or just FM-24. The FM-24 was the French army’s standard light machine gun until the end of the 1950s.
Internally it works a
lot like the American BAR, but it is also heavily influenced by the
British BREN machine gun. It has a top fed magazine that
holds 25 rounds of caliber 7,5mm. The FM-24 does not have a changeable barrel; witch
makes it impossible to lay down sustained fire for any longer period
of time. An interesting detail with the FM-24 is the two triggers –
one for semi, and one for full auto.
