MAT 49 (Manufacture Nationale
d'Armes de Tulle) is a weapon, tailor made for paratroops. It is
small, agile, robust and reliable. The weapon gained popularity
quickly amongst the soldiers who used it. Despite its short barrel
the weapon was pretty accurate with a range of up to 150-200 meters,
even when firing full auto. It had a retractable stock and the
magazine could be bent in 90 degrees forward so that it lay
underneath the barrel of the gun making the weapon handier when
transported. It was enough to pull the magazine back into its
original position and the gun was ready to fire. The French used the
more common ammunition 9x19 for this weapon. Magazine: 20 or 32 rounds |
