SECRET 1944-06-01 ROYAL
STAFF OF SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS TO:
3rd Buccaneer squad of the 1st Airb. Div. INTENSION The
aim of this mission is to infiltrate into the occupied France and
prepare for the arrival of the allied forces. Reinforcement will
consist of American 101 Airborne troops and will be arriving 6th
June (day 2).
1.
Objective a)
FIND THE FRENCH RESISTANCE Your
first task is to establish contact with the French Resistance which is
operating in the area. They will assist you in your mission. Code
Question: Do you have some strong Turkish tobacco? Code Answer: No, I
prefer Magyar snuff tobacco. b)
SCOUT THE AREA Infiltrate
the enemy positions and find anything useful about enemy strength,
location and alertness. Especially interesting are AA weapons and
artillery that might threat the beaches and other areas of deployment
of our troops. c)
PICK UP WEAPONS DROP To
arm the Resistance fighters, there will be a light weapons drop near
your position. In the drop, there will also be some explosives and
other useful tools. Hide the weapons until they can be distributed
among the fighters. d)
DESTROY AA GUNS They
will be vulnerable to enemy AA fire. Locate and destroy any AA weapons
you find before arrival of reinforcement.
2.
Method a)
DISCRETION Be
careful what you reveal to the resistance fighters. They are recruited
among the civilian French and may as well be cooperating with the
Germans!
3.
Enemy a)
GARRISON The
enemy is expected to consist of rear troops guarding fixed
installations. Intelligence reports not fully trained recruits and
veterans transferred here to rest. God
